Accessibility

The Cap Cartel wants every part of this store — browsing, sizing and checkout — to work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification or voice control.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities. There are three levels of conformance: A, AA and AAA.

This store is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully meet the standard. The parts we know about are listed under Known limitations below.

What we have done

  • Every product image has descriptive alternative text — every one of them. The descriptions name the cap, its colours and the angle shown, rather than repeating the product title.
  • Text meets WCAG AA contrast against its background everywhere we have measured, across the home, collection, product and contact pages.
  • The store can be operated entirely from a keyboard. There is a skip-to-content link, every interactive element shows a visible focus outline, and dialogs — cart, filters, size guide, image viewer — keep focus inside while open and return it when closed.
  • Size options behave as a real radio group: a single tab stop, with arrow keys, Home and End moving between sizes.
  • Controls are large enough to hit. Interactive targets are at least 24 by 24 CSS pixels, including the image indicators under the product gallery on mobile.
  • Headings are structured. Every page has exactly one level-one heading and an outline that does not skip levels.
  • Layout reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide, so the store is usable at high zoom and on small screens.
  • Motion respects your settings. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and smooth scrolling are switched off automatically.
  • Form fields have labels, and the page language is declared so screen readers pronounce content correctly.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some limitations remain. We list them here rather than leave you to discover them.

  1. Checkout. Checkout is hosted and rendered by Shopify, not by us, and we cannot change its markup. Shopify publishes its own accessibility information.
  2. Wishlist. The wishlist is a third-party app. It inserts a quantity field with no visible label, and we do not fully control its markup. Nothing about finding or buying a cap depends on the wishlist.
  3. English only. The store is currently available in English. A Spanish version is planned.
  4. No independent audit. Everything above is our own testing. We have not commissioned a third-party accessibility audit, and we have not tested every combination of browser and assistive technology.

Compatibility

The store is built to work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on desktop and mobile, together with the screen readers built into those platforms. Filtering and sorting fall back to ordinary page loads if JavaScript is unavailable, so the catalogue stays browsable either way.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on this store blocks you, we want to know — it is the fastest way for us to fix it.

We aim to respond within two business days. It helps if you can tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do and what got in the way — and, if you know it, the browser and assistive technology you were using.

How this was assessed

Self-evaluated on 16 August 2026 using a combination of automated checks — contrast ratios, heading structure, alternative text coverage, target size and reflow — and manual keyboard testing. We review this statement at least once a year, and whenever the store changes substantially.

Last reviewed: 23 September 2026.
